  • Go to start menu.
  • Type “regedit” in the search box and  press “Enter”. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  •  Click “File” and select “Export”.

  • Type a name for the backup file in File name field.

How to create registry backup in Windows XP

In windows  XP a system restore point is used to backup registry files. System restore point can be created by using following method:

  • Click Start>All programs>Accessories>system tools>click system restore.
  • In System restore wizard click on “Create a Restore Point”  than click “Next”.
  • Type description and click “Create” tab.

  • Click Start>All programs>Accessories>system tools>click system restore.

  • Select a Restore Point and click next.
